Ernest Aryeetey (1955) is director of the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) of the University of Ghana, Legon. He has been with the research faculty of ISSER since 1986. His research focuses on the economics of development with interest in role of institutions, regional integration, economic reforms, and financial systems in support of small enterprise development.

He has been visiting professor at Yale University and at the Department of Economics at Swarthmore College (2001-2002). He has been a consultant to various international agencies. He is a resource person of the African Economic Research Consortium, Nairobi, and a managing editor of the Journal of African Economies. Among his publications are Financial Integration and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa (1998) and Economic Reforms in Ghana: The Miracle and the Mirage (2000).
